Conversion Tracking

Why Ad Platforms Show Different Conversion Numbers

Different dashboards can legitimately report different conversion totals because they do not always observe, define or attribute the same events in the same way.

Attribution windows

One platform may credit a conversion days after an ad click while another uses a shorter window. View-through conversions can create another source of disagreement.

Identity and cross-device

Platforms with logged-in user graphs may connect interactions that an independent browser-based system cannot. Independent trackers may preserve campaign data that a platform model handles differently.

Event definitions

A “purchase” can mean confirmation-page view, payment success, imported order or another event. Inconsistent definitions are a common cause of avoidable discrepancies.

Time zones and timing

Dashboards may attribute the same conversion to different dates based on account time zone, click date versus conversion date, processing delays or late imports.

How to troubleshoot

Choose one known test transaction. Compare the event timestamp, value, identifiers, source, attribution window and duplicate status in each system before drawing conclusions from aggregate totals.
