How to Track Ad Conversions
Reliable ad conversion tracking starts with a simple measurement specification: which outcomes count, what they are worth and which campaign identifiers must survive until conversion.
Define outcomes
Separate micro-conversions such as form starts from business outcomes such as qualified leads or sales. Give values only where they are meaningful and consistently available.
Preserve campaign context
Use stable UTM parameters, ad-platform click IDs or tracker identifiers so the source survives beyond the landing page. Make sure redirects and cross-domain steps do not silently drop those values.
Record the event once
Duplicate conversion events can overstate performance. Validate browser and server events, deduplication keys and confirmation-page behavior so one business event does not become two conversions.
Reconcile with source systems
Compare tracker totals with the CRM, payment processor or other outcome system. The purpose is not perfect equality at every moment but a documented understanding of timing and attribution differences.
