How to Detect Click Fraud and Invalid Traffic

Detecting click fraud is a pattern-analysis problem. Start with behavior that is unlikely for genuine prospects and then validate it against multiple data sources.

Establish a normal baseline

Know typical click frequency, geography, device mix, engagement and conversion rate for a stable campaign. Suspicion is easier to evaluate when you know what normal looks like.

Look for clusters

Repeated clicks from the same source, implausible session timing, unusual user-agent patterns or concentrated traffic from unexpected locations can justify deeper inspection.

Compare systems

Ad-platform clicks, independent tracker logs and web-server requests may count differently. Large unexplained gaps can help narrow where invalid or filtered activity is occurring.

Act conservatively

Use placement exclusions, source blocks, platform fraud controls and tracker filters where justified. Avoid broad blocks based on a single noisy signal.
