Tracking Links vs Regular Links
A regular link sends a visitor directly to the destination. A tracking link typically passes through a measurement layer first so the click can be recorded and labeled.
What a tracking redirect adds
The tracker can record source parameters, create or preserve a click identifier, apply routing rules and then send the visitor to the intended destination.
Performance matters
Redirect chains add latency. Use reliable infrastructure and avoid unnecessary hops, especially for paid traffic where slow redirects can hurt the user experience.
Custom domains
Custom tracking domains can make links easier to recognize and support a first-party measurement architecture. They also require correct DNS and HTTPS configuration.
When direct links are enough
If you only need basic network reporting and a tracker adds no decision value, direct affiliate links can be simpler. Tracking should exist to answer a real question.
